Ladies let’s get real. We may all be experiencing menopause in one way or another but we are all on our own journey during this “mid-life” - would you agree? While we can have varying desires and goals when it comes to how we want to feel during this transitional phase of life, there are some common aspects that many women going through menopause strive for in terms of their well-being and quality of life.
Here’s a list I put together:
We want to feel comfortable! Many women in menopause desire relief from hot flashes, night sweats, vaginal dryness, and mood swings. We want to feel comfortable in our own bodies and reduce any physical discomfort associated with hormonal changes.
We want to feel as though our hormones are balanced! Hormonal fluctuations during menopause can sometimes lead to emotional and psychological changes. We often seek a sense of emotional balance and stability. We want less mood swings, less irritability, less anxiety, and/or less depression.
We want our energy back! Feeling energized and maintaining vitality becomes a priority for many of us.
We want to feel healthy again! Oftentimes women in menopause have a strong desire to improve their overall health. Many women I speak with also want to focus on strategies to prevent osteoporosis, lose weight, and reduce the risk of heart disease, which increases with age and hormonal changes.
We want to love our bodies again! Menopause can bring about changes in body shape, weight distribution, and skin elasticity.
We want to feel sexually fulfilled again! Due to hormonal changes, menopause can sometimes impact our sexual desire. Many of us desire to maintain a satisfying and fulfilling sex life during menopause.
We want to feel empowered! Women in menopause often seek a sense of empowerment and control over their bodies and lives as they ought to! We need to educate ourselves about menopause, make informed decisions regarding hormone therapy or alternative treatments, and actively participate in managing our health.
We need to be our own best health advocates. That starts with learning to understand what our unique bodies need physically and emotionally. Here are 3 tips to get started:
Have an open and honest discussion with your physician about what you are experiencing physically and emotionally. Seek out guidance and help with whatever you are struggling with in these areas.
Don’t underestimate the importance of sound nutrition and lifestyle choices. Both are the foundation of fantastic health.
Learn to listen to YOUR body. We are all individuals with individual nutrient needs. There is no one size fits all with how to eat and take care of ourselves.
Here’s some things to consider…
What lights you up? What makes you feel amazing? What makes you feel your best? Now go do more of that - if you don’t know where to start - ask questions and get informed. It’s YOUR body and you DESERVE to feel AMAZING!
